It’s getting hot outside, and what does that mean? Time to find activities that will cool you down!
Now there are tons of activities to do in Las Vegas, but kayaking and canoeing at the Lake Mead is a great way to spend a hot Las Vegas summer day cooling down!
With the Lake Mead National Recreation area only 25 minutes away from the strip, you don’t have to travel far to experience the beauty of Lake Mead!
What do you need to know before making a trip out there?
-Lake Mead National Recreation area charges a small fee to visit. It cost $25 per vehicle for 7 consecutive days, or you can purchase an annual pass for only $45! The tickets can be purchased online, or at one of their many entrance stations.
-Need a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe? No worries, they have a variety of marinas that rent all types of paddlecrafts, as well as lifejackets that you are required to carry on board for all occupants when kayaking, canoeing, or paddle boarding.
-Have a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe? Yay! You can go straight to the water, but you will also need to have an Aquatic Invasive Species decal on your kayak or canoe, but paddle boards are exempt. This decal helps to prevent the spread of invasive quagga mussels. The decals can be purchased here.
-Where are paddlecrafts permitted? There are two great spots for paddlecrafting; the canoe/kayak beach on Lake Mead, and Willow Beach on Lake Mohave! The canoe/kayak beach allows you to park on the water’s edge and take your paddlecraft on the water for a peaceful day on the lake! Willow Beach is located in Arizona, but is located only 25 miles south of the canoe/kayak beach. Willow Beach allows for beautiful views of coves, hot springs, and Emerald cove!
-Want a guided tour of the lake? Here is a website filled with the approved vendors that are permitted to hold guided tours launching from the Hoover Dam!
Now what are you waiting for? Head out to the lake, and cool down this weekend while also taking in the breathtaking views that you cannot get in Las Vegas!
